Drake was recently featured in live-broadcast of a NBA game, pouring water into his cup. Drake has been the living meme of 21st century; everything he does is turned into popular memes. His Hotline bling memes constitute my freshman year (2015-2016), my Facebook feeds were full of Drake memes.
In similar essence would people actually die for fame? The movie To die for (1995), although created two decades ago, well-represents the innate desire human beings possess despite the timeline. The movie is about Suzanne who wants to be famous news anchor and who would do anything to reach her goal which involves killing her own husband when he asked her to get off career for the family. All the alibi involved in the murder are sentenced to jail, except Suzanne who starts fabricating about her husband being drug addict and portraying herself as the "poor thing".
Similar cases still continues these days, in various platforms. This is especially true among multiple Facebook "stars" in Korea. Micro-celebrities collude to create rumors to defame others and many other controversial actions just to attract attention. One good example would be Shin-Tae-Il, who has long been banned from YouTube for inappropriate videos. To gain fame he would light up his own nipples (what??), cooking ramen noodles in subway and so on. Well, at least he did not commit murder like Suzanne for fame and career. Still the innate desire for fame and attention will continue to exist in human bloods and the consequences will develop as time goes on and I am looking forward to more bizarre news in future.
